Managed Vs Unmanaged.
Renting a dedicated server in Australia.
Overview
Managed VS Unmanaged
Managed Vs Unmanaged
Comparing a managed dedicated server to an unmanaged dedicated server.
There are distinct advantages and disadvantages to both of these services.
Managed Dedicated Hosting
Normally, a managed server is operated and monitored by a web hosting provider with technicians standing by in case of any difficulty. The cost of technicians standing by is normally sold as part of a "managed server package". Clients are to provide all website data but have the power to call and depend on help from the web host. Web hosts often give a higher priority to dedicated server hosting due to it's high monthly running costs.
UnManaged Dedicated Hosting
An unmanged server refers to a server being fully operated by a client, saving on the costs of technicians standing by. A web hosting provider will supply storage space, bandwidth and security. In the event of difficulty arising, except a fault from the web host; for example a hardware failure, a fee will be incurred if technical support are required by the web host. An unmanged solution often requires extensive expertise, and a significant amount of time.
Technicians
Most larger companies requiring a dedicated server often have an in-house or standby technician available that could control a dedicated server. An unmanaged approach is a cheaper alternative in these situations.
In circumstances where there is no technical person available it would be beneficial to request a managed dedicated server. Choosing a host that offers both and allows you to change would obviously be the best alternative.
